About the Work
Marco DaSilva’s mosaics explore camouflage and syncretism, combining symbols from American culture, Catholic saints and Afro-Brazilian deities to create hybrid works that examine objects as relics.
About the Artist
Marco DaSilva is a Brazilian-American artist whose symbol-based works explore hybridity through the intersections of painting and craft. His graphic style blends the collaging of objects, textures, and mediums. His work investigates ritual and storytelling through a queer lens. DaSilva creates his own mythology in the process, offering a richly saturated landscape of his world to the viewer. He was a NYFA Artist as Entrepreneur Fellow, a Visual Art Fellow for Queer|Art|Mentorship, and an artist-in-residence at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Arts Center. His work has been featured in NBC OUT’s “12 queer artists whose work is making us pay attention” and is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Watson Library.
DaSilva exhibited in Cruising the Horizon in 2021 at The Latinx Project.
